Background:
UN-HABITAT is providing technical assistance to the CIDA supported Governance and Development Support GDSP project in Kandahar City. This project is being executed by Kandahar Municipality and the Ministry of Urban Development, with the technical assistance of UN-HABITAT, in selected neighbourhoods of Kandahar City.

Informal settlements in Afghanistan are established on marginal land by people who are very poor and do not have any access to land. These settlements are often characterized by lack of basic infrastructure (shelter, electricity, roads, drainage, sewerage, etc.) and services (water, sanitation, solid waste management, etc.). Human security for dwellers in informal settlements is therefore often impaired. Human security brings together the human elements of security, rights and development. Human security means protecting vital freedoms i.e. protecting people from critical and pervasive threats and situations, while building on their strengths and aspirations. ?Protection and Empowerment? are two key strategies that lead to achieve human security in general.

The focus of this project is urban poor and it is dedicated to improving the prospects of those poor communities living in informal settlements. It aims to assist communities establish and support community development institutions respond to the challenges they face. The project adopts a holistic approach to urban reconstruction since its objective is to improve urban governance, mobilize local resources, build partnerships between the government and the private sector.

Reporting Officer will be part of the UN-HABITAT, GDSP team in Kandahar Project and will be responsible to gather necessary data and information and prepare different types of reports in field in order to support the progress of the project activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the guidance and supervision of the ICT Manager the ICT Support Assistant
Provides ICT support to Kandahar office ensuring high quality and accuracy of work, The ICT Support Assistant promotes a client, quality and results-oriented approach:

1. Maintaining Local Area Network as per ICT policies.

2. Installing and configuring of standard server software and tasks related to LAN/WLAN

3. Experienced with network testing, cabling, trouble shooting etc.,

4. Repairing of ICT equipment (hardware and software) (Desktop, Notebooks, Printers, scanners....etc.,)

5. Service and maintenance of ICT equipments.

6. Installing and upgrading various PC application software packages as per UN-habitat ICT policies.

7. Performing problem analyses and problem determination for all hardware and software systems

8. Implementing appropriate recovery procedures as required.

9. Ensure that all computers are protected against Viruses and all up dates are applied and installed regularly with appropriate follow up.

10. Daily follow up the ICT system in the office to ensure error free ICT environment.

11. Maintaining proper record of ICT related properties in the stock.

12. Seek advice of ICT Manager for any ICT related issues to ensure appropriate ICT equipments technical specification are in place and ICT policies are fully consider.

13. Project Manager of GDSP in Kandahar can monitor ICT Support daily performance and if any technical guidance is needed Project Manager will contact ICT Manager at Main office.

14. ICT Support Assistant is to contact ICT Manager in Main office for any ICT related purchase to ensure that technical specification is as per UN-habitat ICT polices.

15. Ensure appropriate use of UN-Habitat ICT policies are applied within the office.

16. Any other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications required:
The ICT Support Assistant must have a diploma in Computer Science, A+ Certified , CCNA and MCSA is an asset. He/She must have at least three years of working experience is field of ICT. Fluency in both oral and written English will be vital since all the reporting and correspondence will be carried out in English.
