Consultant to conduct Audience Survey on Youth Radio, Vientiane

UNICEF is seeking a research consultant or company to work with Lao National Radio (under the Ministry of Information and Culture) to conduct a survey on youth awareness and perceptions of current youth radio programmes broadcast in the country. The survey will also seek to measure the impact of UNICEF-supported youth radio programmes in eight provinces broadcast between 2004 and 2008.
The consultant will be expected to:
- Review and analyze existing research and past communication activities related to youth radio and child participation practices in the Lao PDR for use in developing research tools (questionnaires etc).
- Design and develop research survey tools for data collection that will measure children and youth awareness about existing youth radio programmes, and preferences for topics in future radio productions.
- Design and develop research survey tools to measure the impact of outreach activities conducted by youth radio groups in rural communities.
- Finalize scope and research areas in coordination with UNICEF and Lao National Radio. (Survey must include one province in the north, Vientiane and one province in the south).
- Using recognized polling techniques and focus groups, conduct data collection according to the research design.
- Analyze data collected and produce written report of the survey findings.
- Present draft report with summary of key findings to UNICEF, Government counterparts as well as other stakeholders.
Qualifications required:
- Advanced University degree in Behavioural or Social Sciences or related technical field with specialization or experience in the areas of quantitative & qualitative research and evaluation
- At least five years of national and international work experience in Behavioural or Social Sciences or related technical field with specialization or experience in the areas of quantitative & qualitative research and evaluation.
- Analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Lao an asset.
- Proven ability to work in an international and multicultural environment.
