The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) is a UN peace support operation set up under Chapter VI of the United Nations Charter. The UN Security Council authorized the establishment of UNMIS through its adoption of Resolution 1590 on 24 March 2005, following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). UNMIS? overall aim is to help the people of Sudan promote national reconciliation, lasting peace and stability and to build a prosperous Sudan, in which human rights are respected and the protection of all citizens is assured.

The mission of the Humanitarian Early Recovery and Reintegration Department (HERR) department in UNMIS supports the implementation of the CPA by bringing increased stability in a number of areas. Areas of support include increasing the pace of return of IDP?s to their areas of origin, movement towards state based planning, emphasis on building and strengthening institutions and capacity development as a part of the transition from recovery and reintegration to development. We are seeking a Senior Humanitarian Affairs Officer, P-5 to assist HERR to achieve this goal in the mandate.
